Regioni d’Italia: Umbria

Umbria is located in central Italy. Perugia is the capital. Along with Tuscany and the Marche it is part of the central area of Italy characterised by rolling hills and fields.
It has a population of around 800 thousand inhabitants, with a density of 67 inhabitants/km2.
Umbria is divided into 2 provinces: Perugia and Terni.

71% of the territory consists of hills, the rest is mountainous (Mount Vettore culminates to 2448 meters). The region is rich in water, the Tiber (the 3rd largest Italian river) crosses from north to south.
Nearby, are Etruscan towns or age old cities attached to the side of vineyards. A Monastery on the side of cliffs, in the midst of the chestnut trees, where there is a bell tower that rises above the grain and cypress. A healthy and holy land, a little magic.

Umbria, things to do

Called "the green heart of Italy", this region is very captivating putting everything in place to preserve its character and its traditions.
The cities seem to have remained the same since the Middle Ages: dormant old buildings, winding streets, small squares where shops present local crafts from Umbria (Deruta pottery, lace from Lake Trasimeno...).
Assisi is one of the most important centers of Christianity. At Orvieto, the cathedral has one of the most beautiful facades in Italy and contains splendid frescoes by Luca Signorelli.
It is also worth visiting Umbria for its cuisine: olive oil, game, meats, cheese, lentils, fish from the local lakes...
Umbria ensuring peace and quiet and authenticity.
